Description
The Battle of Chickamauga, fought between the Army of Tennessee and the Army of the Cumberland, was one of the bloodiest and most significant battles of the Civil War. Less famous than Gettysburg, Shiloh, or Vicksburg, it is no less significant. Chickamauga represented the last opportunity for the Confederacy to win the war.
It was at Chickamauga that the elan of the Confederacy was spent, there that the Union Army came close to complete annihilation. The story of Chickamauga is one of inept blundering, wasteful bloodshed, and heroic gallantry that made a major impact on the outcome of the Civil War and the nation’s history.
