The sinking of the battlecruiser HMS Hood, the pride of the Royal Navy, by the German battleship Bismarck in the Denmark Strait on 24 May 1941, is one of the most famous naval engagements of the Second World War, and one of the most controversial. Previous accounts have criticized the tactics of the British commander Admiral Holland for exposing his flagship unnecessarily to enemy fire at the start of the battle, but for the first time, this new book explains the Battle of the Denmark Strait in the light of extensive computer modelling of the action based on a detailed analysis of time and range data, correcting several discrepancies in earlier accounts.
